Soccer Sunflower League Champs
Girl’s varsity soccer took on Olathe South last Saturday. This game determined who would be the Sunflower League Champs. SMW soccer defeated OS 2-0. Hannah Miller scored both goals and the assists were from Morgan Mauck and Emily Franchett. The shutout was earned by Alyssa Gregory.
Tuesday May 13th, the girls will take on Olathe East for senior night. If the girls win or tie, they will be the only Sunflower League Champs, but if they lose, they will be tied with four other teams. The team is continuing to work hard and reach their goal of going to State.
“I feel accomplished in knowing we are Sunflower League Champions. That’s always a goal from day one and being able to fulfill that goal feels so great” said Junior Morgan Mauck.
The last time SMW girl’s soccer were Sunflower League Champions was in 2005 and 2006. If they keep continuing on, the will have Regional Playoffs and then State Quarterfinals. State semis/finals will be in Topeka on 5/30-5/31.
“We need to keep working hard because we can’t let up now with our biggest games ahead of us” said sophomore Hannah Miller.
