The Big Game
November 7, 2014
Tonight is the night! It’s the first playoff game of the year!
Our Vikings (ranked 5th in the state) will take on The Olathe South Falcons (ranked 3rd in the state) at 7 pm at south stadium!
Last week the Vikings beat the Blue Vally North Mustangs to clinch their spot in the playoffs. Down 7-21 at half, the Vikings made a miraculous come back in the 2nd half, tying the game 21-21 in the 4th quarter. On the last play of the game, the Vikings were able to call a timeout within field goal range. From there, Tyler Thayer – # 6, kicked the game winning field goal. The Vikings were victorious 24-21.
The football team is 5-4 in the season so far and are going into their first round of playoffs with a 4-1 record in their last five games. The team suffered their last defeat 5 weeks ago to the Falcons, whom they face again tonight.
The last time OS lost a playoff game was in 2010 and SMWest’s last playoff loss was in 2011.
Next week, the winner of the SMW/OS game will face the winner of the SME/Lawrence game, which is also taking place tonight. Playoffs are single elimination which means that only the winner moves on to the next round.
We need a big student section tonight at the game, so come out and cheer on our Viking Football Team! Since it is a post-season game, everyone (including students) will have to pay to enter. It’s $5 with your student ID!
The theme will be a blackout! So be sure to wear your black clothing and dress warm!
Good Luck tonight, Vikings! Let’s get the W.
