Vikings Crushed by Lawrence Lions 49-19
September 27, 2016
The varsity football team has now lost two games in a row after a loss to the Lawrence Lions last Friday.
From the opening kickoff to the closing minutes, the Vikings lacked energy and had a tough moving the ball down the field. The Lions, led by quarterback Dante Jackson, took advantage of consistently good field position. This was due to several turnovers caused by the Lions tough front line.
By the end of the first half, the score was 20-6 in favor of the Lions, and the Vikings still had yet to score a touchdown on offense. The only score was a 99-yard touchdown by junior Dre McCallop off an interception.
The start of the second half was an opportunity for the Vikings to capitalize on 20 minutes of rest, but remained mostly stagnant for the remainder of the game. Even the student section, while having significantly less people, showed little emotion through the entire game.
The Vikings wouldn’t score again until the fourth quarter, in which they mustered 13 points, but only have two interceptions thrown by quarterback Zach Witters, and a fumble by McCallop.
The Lawrence Lions are riding high, as they are now 3-1. Perhaps they are one of the new teams to beat.
The Vikings, however, will look to find success again on Thursday against the Cougars of Shawnee Mission Northwest.
