The Surprise of the NFL So Far
October 27, 2017
The NFL season is now seven, almost eight, weeks in and there have been a lot of exciting plays and games so far. One big surprise this season has been the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles have a 6-1 record, the best in the league. They are lead by their second-year quarterback, Carson Wentz. Other notable players include Zach Ertz (tight end), LaGarrette Blount (running back), Malcolm Jenkins (strong safety), and Jordan Hicks (middle linebacker).
Their head coach is Doug Pederson, who is now in his second year with the team. His name might be familiar to some as he was the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013-2015.
His offensive system is notable for utilizing the tight end in a lot of plays and he runs a 4-3 system on defense. Both systems are paying off very well for the Eagles as they have the 5th ranked offense and are just outside the top 10 in scoring defense.
Specifically, Carson Wentz has 17 TDs and 4 INTs along with 1,852 yards and Jordan Hicks has 28 total tackles.
Looking ahead, the Eagles have three division games left as well as a bye week and games against two of the worst teams in the league, the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants.
The only thing that might be scary to Eagles fans is that this team started out with a 4-2 record last year before losing 7 of their next 10 games and missing the playoffs with a 7-9 record. They can only hope that the same disappointing finish will not happen again this year.
