Girls Basketball Heads to State

The Lady Vikings basketball team will play in the state tournament on Wednesday March 12.

The girls basketball team won against Blue Valley High school on Friday night 48-47. This lands the girls a spot in the state tournament as the #8 seed. The team will play against Manhattan High School, 21-1 this season and #1 seed, on Wednesday the 12th at 3PM in Wichita at WSU’s Koch Arena.

“The whole team is pretty pumped about the game on Wednesday and the chances of making it to the state championship. Coming in as an 8 seed isn’t the best situation, but we’re going to do the best we can and hopefully come out victorious. We’ve been the underdogs most of our season so it’s nothing new for us, only motivation,” Junior Morgan Mauck said, who has played on varsity since her freshman year.

The last Lady Vikings basketball appearance at the state tournament was in 2011. The team made it to the championship game and lost to Wichita-Heights. SM West girls basketball has won state titles for 6A in 1990 and 1993.

There is a spirit bus available for students wanting to attend the game on Wednesday. There are permission forms in the office and the cost is $12.

The boys basketball team played a tough game against Blue Valley North, with a final score of 43-57, and got knocked out of state contention.

Congratulations to both teams on great seasons and good luck to the girls at state!
