Girls Soccer Wins Big Titles

The girls soccer team is on their way to Regionals on Tuesday. Besides having a successful season, one player and coach have been awarded prestigious titles.

Junior Morgan Mauck has recently been awarded Sunflower League Mid-Fielder of the Year 2014. She was nominated unanimously by the Sunflower League coaches to be the 2014 candidate. Mauck is also on the Sunflower League First Team. In the fall of 2015 she will be attending Middle Tennessee State to play soccer on a full-ride scholarship.

“It’s an honor to be awarded such a high title and I couldn’t have won it without the help of my teammates,” said Mauck.

Coach Sarah Gonzalez has been awarded Sunflower League Coach of the Year for girls soccer. This award is chosen by the coaches in the Sunflower League, but the coaches cannot nominate themselves.

“Obviously my players are a big reason why I won this. How quickly they pick up things determines how difficult our practices can be. We have picked up on technique really well, so we can focus on game preparations,” said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez and Mauck are both hopeful for a win on Tuesday and the opportunity to compete in the state tournament.
